WAIT Performs for 4th Annual International Youth Assembly at the UN

Several hours before the start of the performance, members from the DC, New Jersey, and Bridgeport WAIT teams met at the Turkish Mission to fine tune their collaborative dances and songs. Soon the guests arrived, and after some welcoming remarks, the performance began.
Audience members were treated with a feast for the eyes and ears, thanks to the widespread wealth of talented singers, dancers, gymnasts and instrumentalists. WAIT was scheduled towards the end of the event. Lan introduced the team, emphasizing not only the seriousness of HV/AIDS, but the ability we have to put an end to it. This was followed by the dynamic breakdance act, followed by the skit, which shows how our choices can make a difference in the lives of others. Next came the song “Hero,” accompanied with beautiful percussion by the _ Circle Symphony. Our presentation closed with “A Rose is Still a Rose,” highlighting the unalterable value each of us has.

Almost every act was met with a standing ovation from the audience. After our performance, dozens of youth representatives and staff from many different nations approached us. They all had a fire in their eyes, genuinely yearning to impact the world. Many of these groups are hoping to work with us again.
Overall, this event was very successful. We hope that our performance helped to make the dream of ending HIV/AIDS more than just a vague, unreachable goal. By recognizing our unique value, and empowering others to do the same, together we CAN check this goal off our list.
