On Wednesday, May 9th, Eleanor Roosevelt-HS’s You Choose Club and the DC WAIT team will combine forces with a number of clubs and performing groups to raise money for WAIT’s outreach to various African countries having WAIT travel there during the summer and fall to present, educate, and train youth and families there in the universal mediums of dance, music, and drama as HIV/AIDS education methods. Step Dancers, Choruses, Dancers and Singers will contribute their talents to share the AIDS prevention message. A “Jeopardy” type game show is planned, and various items will be available for merchandise. Also possibly being unveiled: a new skit, based on the Matrix trilogy! The comic writing talents of George Burton and some new music and sound effects really bring the message home.
WAIT members Juliette Martin and Josh Herstein have designed two graphic artworks for t-shirts, and Uncle Kurt Garrison is helping produce them.
We are thrilled to see young people taking the message to heart and using creativity to mobilize community support.
Many thanks to Kester Wilkening and Teresa Ferrete, as well as the exciting and creative team of the You Choose Club, for their initiation of this project. Last but not least, Much credit goes to our longtime hero, Mr. Sean Brady , The amazingly helpful Microbiology teacher who has been sponsoring the You Choose Club ever since its founding 4 years ago.
